I was about to go to bed :(
Poor guy, but his dad still deserved it.
Well it is getting late and I have been sleeping late for too long…. OMG! New Pocalypse, well sleep you will have to wait.
SO MANY CLIFFHANGERS. SO MANY SURPRISES!
HOW DO YOU DO IT JOE?!
Hmm…
Still a douchebag.
Now he’s just an UGLY douchebag. A real keeper, this one is.
I think that if bernie had the balls to kill his dad, he should put him in jail 4 life, all he is doing is making an enemy that is going to wait until an oportunity shows up 2 hurt him or his friends, still, he has a good story on how a bad guy can be a good guy under bad circumstances, LOVE THE POCALYPSE
WTF?! he must suffered alot
Lol,Bernie put Scott in his place like a baws.Which he is too ofcourse.
Hmm Scott seem to think he’s the one suffering the most right now. Isn’t that how most teenagers think? xD
Maybe it’d do him good to look around the colony and realize how much others have suffered as well.
poor scott.. but that bastard of he’s father deserved it
@Yinello The colonists had a pretty neat set up going on compared to his farm. The only colonists who’ve almost suffered as much would be family members of the soldiers who’ve been turned by the elder.
@Aethrys not necessarily. We still do not know how many colonists have backstories like those of Nathan and Rusty. We do not know how many colonists escaped zombie hordes only to be run down by plants or mutants or vampires, and we don’t know how many had to watch family members shamble against them as they were infected. Only Author Joe knows this.
They were forced into a choice between being killed or killing tons of other people to survive. Bernie makes a point in that choosing the later makes them bad people who deserve to die, but it’s understandable that it feels like a harsh judgement.
While I know that Bernie sees what he did is right it was still cruel to Scott after all Scott did tell him that he was attacked looked like that because of resistance. Some would chose death but there are those who wish to survive and have revenge even if it means committing sins to save yourself. All in all it’s just a matter of which side you stand on in this kind of situation.
517 votes, cheer up, JOE.
I don’t feel bad for Scott’s father but I feel bad for Scott himself.
Wow. Touching. Great job!
Is it just me or does anybody else feel like the scenes are getting shorter? I feel like in the beginning the were nice and long but over time they’ve gotten progressively shorter to the point were they’re barely a minute long.
@Egbert – I had a lot less to do back then. Ah, the good ol’ days :D I’ll make ’em as long as I can! :D
I kind of feel like the guard is the most decent person in the room during this whole exchange…
It is hard to admit, but Bernie really did screw up here by taking justice into his own hands. Yes, he was acting with what he deemed to be good intentions, but he killed a human being, and I imagine had be been a bit less rational, Scott wouldn’t be alive right now either.
Either way, I imagine that Bernie is still thinking about his actions, and part of him seeing Scott again is trying to justify himself and extinguish any doubts about what he did. However, these visits are just making him wonder about what he did even more and whether he did the right thing.
(At least, that’s what I think. Can’t really be sure what’s going on under all that hair.)
@Riou: I imagine at least one deal with the Cliffhanger Demon has been made, and immortal souls have trained hands/claws/tentacles.
@Lio: The problem is that he doesn’t have a valid reason to keep him in there. Yes, there was the farm, but that was mostly his father, and Scott had very little to do with it. He also more or less saved their lives, which means he tried, to some extent, to redeem himself and his father.
@Aethrys: What Reaver said. Keeping in mind that the colony was formed a few years ago, that means that everyone at the colony (minus any children that have been born there) has suffered, to some extent, the horrors of the Pocalypse. Yes, they are protected, but that doesn’t get rid of the tragedies they faced before being at New Hammerston.
@Joe: Don’t rush yourself! These are awesome, which makes the wait perfectly understandable. Agonizing at times when it’s such a cliff-hanger, yes, but perfect acceptable. This is one of my favorite webcomics, and I’ve been an avid reader for at least three years, and I’ve read at least sixty or seventy!
@X: Bernie did what he believed was right and I can see why. A lot of other humans suffered under Bernie’s father. Is Bernie a worse person than Scott’s dad just for killing a man, despite said man torturing what dozens and dozens of people into a slow death to feed vampires? I don’t think there was a right or wrong way, killing or sparing Scott’s death would probably always lead to tragedy.
@yinello: I agree completely about how Bernie did what he believed was right at the time, and like you, I can see why he thought that way. Scott’s dad has definitely committed more evil. The problem, however, is that Scott’s dad allowed himself to sink to that lower level, while Bernie believes himself to be a defender and a dealer of justice, to the extent that he renames himself with his new suit, Arbiter, which literally means ‘judge’. The problem is, was he right to kill Scott’s dad? And that is something that, like I said before, is probably weighing heavily on Bernie even now.
I’m not saying that Bernie acted against his morals; in reflection, I can see how that first post might have implied it. What I meant was that Bernie took on all the responsibility and justice of humanity, as opposed to letting him have a trial, like he’s doing with Scott, and that’s something that’s going to come back to bite him in the butt, I imagine.
