Dr Nick isn’t feeling the love in the colony? Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that he’s going to leave the colony again.

Really? 100 credits a glass of coke? Seems like each credit costs about 1 cent. But… 225 credits and Joe´s complaining… Wonder if he´s cheap…?

In some cases he is right. Given the circumstances, those who are better in a trade are forced to remain in that trade. He probably is the head doctor and trains others, but I’m sure that those learning from him can’t compete when it comes to knowledge of the skill.
He’s trapped, but for an overall good cause. Doesn’t justify it, but at least shows it means well.

In other news, I laughed at Bernie’s panic attack when Rosa came out.

@NeoWarrior

Do keep in mind this is after the end of the world. It’s not like anyone’s going to be making MORE Coke, so it’s going to be expensive.

Also on the credits thing, keep in mind that the 6001 credits joe got were apparently enough to support them for over a month including food ammo etc, also a plant dog killing machine cost 250 (if i remember right) so seriously doubt its a credit a cent, she asked for the most expensive drink she could get, and im sure they have alcohol and old wines there as well, also remember 50 credits its supposed to be enough to get you started in the colony and get things you need or one large day of drinking.

Dr. Roth is a fool. He is delusional, selfish to the point of destructiveness, and forgets that too much freedom is asking for chaos and destruction. Its like gravity: sure, with it we cannot fly, but without it, well, the body can only go so long before it starts shutting down in zero G, which is why space station operators can only stay so long. Plus sleeping would be a pain.

On another note, Rosa almost doomed Bernie. Good thing the Private is not very perceptive…

Alright, serious time.

On another topic, I might agree with Nick. If a person has multiple skills, they should be used if they can be without sacrificing other needs. But there’s two major problems with Nick’s reasoning here: First, he has very little experience or talent in combat, and he only survived his suicide mission because of Scrufflebeck’s selflessness and Greybane’s quick actions. Second, he is the colony’s best surviving doctor, and we haven’t been shown anyone else who can work like Nick.

In addition, there’s also Nick’s rebellious nature, which isn’t exactly loved in any armed forces. He refused to help Joe, aka doing his job, which would have resulted in Joe’s death without his odd little powers. He abandoned the colony and drugged several soldiers, preventing THEM from doing THEIR jobs and protecting the colony from risks. When he returned, he took all the credit, trying to boast his skills as better than they are.

Then, like Bernie briefly thought had happened, his actions nearly cost them their first chance at really fighting back against the machines. After so much suffering and death, the survivors finally had a way to fight these machines, and he took it without a single thought about the consequences. Imagine if they can reverse-engineer the technology; the possibilities are all but endless. On the other hand, if the machines got their hands on it, they could have developep a resistance to whatever the device does, thus eliminating what might be humanity’s last shot at defeating them.

Considering everything he’s done (and in Joe’s case, HASN’T done), I’m not surprised at all he’s not being celebrated or congratulated by the others. Time for him to get off his high horse and start thinking about other people. He’s almost as bad as Cross.

@X – I absolutely prefer when you don’t post serious comments. Though, you are right. Cross seems an angel if we confront them. “Jess left me so I go on a suicide mission and expect to receive congratulations for 1. drugging defenders and 2. nearly killing Joe”.. bah..

On the other hand,I hope the third glass is for me :D

Really it’s not what Dr Nick does that is wrong, what he does (when successful) is beneficial to the colony.
Where the problem is, is within the ~how~ Nick does things.
He is childish, blind, self-important, arrogant, self-loathing, self-intitled and doesn’t have the naivety that redeems Joe.
(sorry for all the self words, selfish doesn’t quite hit the bell right)

Oh, and I’ve not seen him fail at something other than ‘saving’ Joe, which he more refused to do than failed. (worse than failure is never trying in the first place)

In my opinion, if Dr. Nick had wanted to be a soldier, he would have trained to be one way before the world went into chaos…instead he chose to be a doctor, which is a drastically different path then being a soldier. Why does he suddenly want to change now that his services are the most needed as a doctor? His erratic and somewhat irrational behavior is a liability to the colony, which really needs him.

On another note- the price of coke in this comic + that crazy soda/gunshop guy from left 4 dead 2 confirms my suspicions that soda will be the most valuable trading resource post-apocalyspe!

@sh4d0wfl4re: The reason we haven’t seen him fail is because he’s had Scrufflebeck and Greybane holding his hands for the last chapter or so. I can count at least three times he would have died without Scrufflebeck’s help even BEFORE they get to the machine city.

I would agree with you about him being beneficial, but he has done so much harm over the course of the comic: not even trying to help Joe, forsaking his job (with several severely wounded people in need of medical attention), incapacitating several soldiers in the line of duty, stealing and nearly losing the colony’s greatest asset against the machines, taking the credit for doing something he couldn’t possibly have done on his own… Need I go on?

@Randomman: I’ll buy Pepsi products, you stock up on Coca Cola merchandise, and we’ll both be rich!

I think 1 credit is like 1 dollar. So a glass of Coke is 100 dollars, as it is like a endangered species that can’t reproduce.

@X yes, I agree he has done more harm than anything else. I’m just saying it’s not because he isn’t skilled nor is it because he can’t make use of the skills of those around him.
I’m saying Dr. Nick is such a screw up because he refuses to take responsibility and grow up!
Doesn’t he remember how precarious surviving The Pocalypse is?!?!?

Oh my god Man the F**k up Nick your constant whining is getting really annoying bernie is right if scrufflebeck hadn’t come with you and greybane weren’t there you would have died one day after you left I mean if you wanted to be a soldier then you should have trained for it but you chose doctor so that’s your fault.
