Halfway into the story!
Chapter 3 started right around the time Japan was recovering from the big quake, tsunami, and nuclear plant meltdown. Life slowly returned to normal and supermarket shelves began to look more and more stocked :D
My friend, Rich, who was halfway around the world in Canada, and I started work on The Pocalypse Defense to see if we could make a game together. Turns out, we could and we released our first game :D We then started work on our first iOS game, BlockHopper.
My life during these chapters feels like a blur!
Enjoy Chapters 3 & 4!
You can follow The Pocalypse on Facebook, Twitter for updates!
Oh, and The Monolith is now on mobile devices! Download now and tap away! :D
I’ll admit, there was actually a fair amount of information that I’d forgotten. Makes me wonder what I’m failing to remember from Chatpers 5 and 6. I guess I’ll find out in the next update!
I thought Pocalypse Defense never came out or did i miss it?
The Pocalypse Defense came out, it’s the Pocalypse Defense II that we’re all waiting on.
Hate to ask but didn’t raj start as a part of a comment?
Anyone got a link to first one i must have totally missed it :O
Sorry i did play it never mind, just googled it ignore me im being a retard for the day…
It’s okay we ALL go into full-retard-mode from time to time
speaking of the pocalypse defense whats the status with the second one?
Been with this for ages, so excited for this to continue :D
I’m always glad to see more episodes =)
Can’t wait for the next chapter to start!
Wow, once again there are so many things I forgot about XD
What about the dialogue between the vampire elders towards the end? (after Bernie kills the mad farmer and stops one of their blood factories) “An unknown trio of elders meets after Bernie’s actions. They seem to have something planned for him…” Elder 1: “Can he defeat the slayer?” Elder 2: “… The slayer will not harm his child.” Could the slayer be Bernard sr.? Are they planning to turn Bernie into a vampire and attack his father?
Omg Francesco, completely forgot that bernie’s father is alive
Has it actually been confirmed that he’s alive? I always thought of it more-so being that everyone believed he was still alive, despite no real contact from him on anyone’s end for years.
@BloodWolf7 If i recall it was Sam or a Vampire that confirmed it(not too sure tho, just that what Zulion said somehow popped that thought into my head)
Honestly, i just wish there would be more focus on the webseries than the games. It’s great you’re having success with it Joe, but for people like me, who followed you from the beginning of the pocalypse, and Whom never owned an iDevice, and most likely never will, unless Apple make some significant policy changes. I just could not care less about a game for the iPhone.
Even if it was available for android i probably wouldn’t play it. Not when i have a highpower gaming rig, and can instead pour the few hours i have for gaming into the AC series, TES, LoL or NWN. I may easily come across as harsh, which is not the point, basically I am saying that with all the other options, playing 2D games on my phone really just isn’t anywhere near being a priority, Especially considering that even for my phone there are full 3D (with nice graphics, and even open world) games i could play. I’m not saying you aren’t doing a good job. Just saying I’m missing the time where it was 3-a-week pocalypse, and not 3-a-year.
@All – Yeah! I sometimes forget about tiny little plot points that just maaaaay be pretty important later on :D
@Rasmus – Totally agree! Not everyone plays 2D mobile games and I completely understand! I’m a PC gamer myself :D What it comes down to, ultimately, is money. As a full-time artist, I have to create things that keep my family and me afloat. The Pocalypse doesn’t make much, which is unfortunate because it’s what I love to do most! I am thinking of ways to bring more revenue via the webcomic and once it reaches a certain level, I can start working less on games and freelancing and focus more on The Pocalypse. Long-time fans like you deserve it!
@ Rasmus – a little tip for you mate, graphics and 3D isnt the be all and end all of gaming,if all you care about is the graphics then your gona play some pretty shit games in your time my friend,i would rather play a great game with awful graphics than a beautiful looking game with 0 gameplay. I also find it odd as Joe’s style of art is similar to games of old when they were all 2D yet you say you wont ever play a 2D game on your phone but you will easily read the similarly looking comic?
Sorry if i sound like a dick but my family has worked in the gaming industry all my life and i even have a brother who works at Rockstar and is currently working on GTA V on the PC and nothing pisses us off more than some idiot who claims graphics make a game….
Adieu, mon ami. Où êtes-vous allé?
@Decifer – As a Canadian who took 8 years of French in school, I shamefully had to Google Translate that D: I’m still here and I hope to get to the next recap scene in a few days :D
when will tpd2 come out?
Lol. That’s okay. I’m one of those quiet followers and figured I’d give my piece. We all are rooting for you.
Stay golden, ponyboy.
so like, is everyone really okay with story recaps at this point? I remember when it was a few updates a week and when you are doing that putting one update towards recap every so often is okay but when you post once every so often, long enough breaks for people to read the entire comic again a few times over, why waste precious updates on recaps? and you can’t just say “for new readers” because who fucking opens a comic or any reading material part of the way in and goes “I demand to have all knowledge about what has happened so far feed to me”. it is just so pointless to have recaps at this point… why do it?
Well the first step to making money from this comic, would be to do this comic . . .
@Nammers, he is probally doing recaps because it is easier for him to remeber what happend, so he doesn’t have to waste time to re-read the comic everytime he is going to post a update or something :P
@Nammers: these recaps are actually meant to be aimed towards us long time readers AND Joe himself, and the reason lies precisely behind the slow pace The Pocalypse had to go through in the past couple years. With so much content released since the first scene back in 2010 there was a concrete risk of missing some important details and create loop holes, had Joe not looked through each scene from the very beginning in these last few months. And while doing so he also provided us a source to get ourselves reminded of some important things we inevitably came to forget after all these years. Trust me, this was definitely needed, and I can recall at least one or two other long webcomics which have released story recaps after a year or two. I’d rather wait longer for actual new content than have it served now instead of these recaps and deal with some plot holes. Plus, remember the golden rule of EVERY author/artist: if you do something for free, follow your heart and do what you have fun with the most, don’t just follow blindly what the most demanding part of your readers ask. Otherwise it becomes an unpaid job, and working for free without having anything in return (not even the joy of the experience) is true hell, believe me.
Oops, I meant plot holes, not loop holes, haha :P I wish there was an edit button to our posts! XD (Now I bet I’ll notice other mistakes right after I send this message…)
its a good story and joe you know how to surprise us , when we think the story is going to some point it turns around the corner and changes n.n , i still say its really good and believe it or not , i have read all the chapters 4 times n.n
I’ll admit that I have mixed feelings about the recaps. On the one hand the remind me of what’s happened thus far in the story, which is good as it’s been going awhile and the slow pace right now makes it difficult to recall what’s been happening. On the other hand, I’d prefer to see the story progress more, rather than a few updates solely based on recapping what’s happened thus far.
I will admit that I’m surprised that the comic is moving so slowly through them right now, I guess it’s just that it takes a good amount of time to go through the material for it.
We are now almost at the 2 year anniversary of the extreme slowdown
And almost exactly 2 years ago was the deadline for ThePocalypse defence 2
Or the deadline of something else, I was just skimming the scenes
it’s been two years since you said the pocalypse defence two would be released
Hows about you all stop whining like entitled 3 year olds,he will do the comic as he see’s fit and when he says so,its not like he is being payed by you so shut your pie holes!
And I really don’t see Author Joe screwing us out of our funds for the game. I’d rather we get a good product late than a bad product on time. Look back at Trespasser, they had a lot of great ideas to put into the game and if they’d taken longer to finish it then it would have been a ground breaking game. Instead we got a barely functioning beta version of the game. While I don’t expect The Pocalypse Defense II to be Earth shattering, I do expect to get a god game out of it and I’ll take the length of time it takes to get it. I trust Joe, and his partner, on this.
Thanks for the support and faith, everyone :D I know most readers are increasingly losing patience and I completely understand and sympathize. Time is tighter now due to the holidays but I hope to get the rest of the recaps done once my time frees up :D Once the recaps are done, I’ll have to start Chapter 9 with some small changes to how the scenes are funded. I’ll let you know and if everything works out, we won’t have to wait 1-2 months or an update!
Happy Holidays joe and the gang…as well as to the zombies vamps and the other beasties, but mostly scrufflebeck because he’s awesome and I want one :)
@wm28uk Yes, he is getting paid by us. And I have been waiting 2 years more than I should be for something, it makes sense that I would get a little impatient, plus I am just stating the fact, jeez.
Happy new year peasants!
blallalalalalalalalallalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalallaalalalalalalalalalalalalalal
Joe keep doing what you are doing. your comic is worth the it. thanks
Cade, I agree with you, the comic is worth it, that is why I keep coming back, but I am kind of impatient…
Not Cade, I meant Chris

So how was the holidays for everyone? Were they festive, fun and full of family?
What if new readers just took the time to go back and go through the episodes on their own? Just break them down by chapters or subchapters in a link on the main page. There is plenty of time to catch up between episodes.
What if everyone acted like an adult and stopped complaining? that would be a brilliant solution.
@Thorlas Wise words from a wise person :D
Well, they do have the right to complain. They always have.
The statistics are:
2 weeks since joe last visited this page
2 months since the last scene
2 years since the estimated release of the pocalypse defense 2
