Just finished watching 1992’s Dead Alive (aka. Braindead). I don’t even know what to say about it. It’s such a ridiculous, over-the-top, utterly insane film. And I highly enjoyed it and I totally recommend it :D
Dead Alive was directed by none other than Peter Jackson. Yup, the Lord of the Rings trilogy guy. I honestly can’t believe that he directed this movie, but I must say that it really shows just how creative and versatile he is. If you can create something like Dead Alive, then you have some imagination, friend.
They say (and by “they”, I mean Wikipedia) that it’s considered to be one of the goriest films of all time and I really can’t argue with that statement. It’s definitely not a movie for those with weak stomachs, but it’s not disturbing gory, it’s funny gory. The vast amount of mutilation that went on had me laughing the whole time.
To top it all off, there’s actually a story in there somewhere. The main character, Lionel, is a clumsy, spineless mama’s boy who initially tries to keep his infected mother a secret by hiding and routinely tranquilizing her. Naturally, the mother breaks free from time to time and infects a few others. Lionel, being the responsible boy that he is, ends up taking care of the group of infected and hilarity ensues (try keeping two horny zombies from doing each other) :D
Check it out! It’s worth it just to see a priest beat the crap out a group of zombies, yelling “I kick ass for the Lord!” Haha!

Enjoy Scene 19 – “Mind-crafting with Andy”! There’s an easter egg in there! Nothing big, but it was fun to throw in :D See if you can find it!
Please vote and nominate (if you think I deserve it!) :D
Have a great weekend!
lol quite a simple easter egg
Haha, yeah :P Glad you found it!
Mining is really addictive
But it is the wrong tool! You have to use shovels for dirt :p
lol that depends if the dirt is a pixelated block or not
I made an evil dead comment once back in high school, was telling my friend about the scene where Lionel fights the zombie baby. Idiot sitting next to us only hears, “-hits it with a frying pan then shoves the baby into the blender!” and decided to ask me, “You put babies in blenders?” Being a smart ass I could only respond, “Yes, yes I do.” Spent the next 3 1/2 years as the guy who puts babies in blenders… I love this comic (back to the topic as to why this comment thingy exists) it’s creative and very funny. I look forward to Joe mind nuking zombie in the future.
Not evil dead, dead alive, same context (why don’t these come with editing tools?)
I was going to say “Hey, that’s look like Minecraft” before seeing the easter egg.
Nice comics.
A bit simple compared to the last one, but still pretty sweet
Must be frustrating for Andy to deal with such a blockhead.
How old are you? I am simply curious, because I discovered Dead Alive when I was about 10 and that was 15 years ago! I agree it is a great, over-the-top romantic, zombie comedy. It will always have a place in my heart! I am still pissed someone stole my DVD edition of it last year!
Anyways, have you ever seen cemetery man?
@George – Haha!
@EvilEarl – Pun intended? Nice :D
@Kuehnau – Sounds like we’re the same age! I’d never heard of Dead Alive until it was suggested here :D Haven’t seen Cemetery Man, but I’ll check it out!
@Joe – it’s actually pun required, you just can’t describe Joe in that situation without that description
That’s what sucks about video games: you have to eat eventually :(
Heh, you should submit this to notch and his crew! xD
Heh, at my college I got this thing started with a couple of my fellow student chaplains where we would quote the priest’s lines from that scene in Dead Alive ALL the time, it was quite funny… “Evil is amongst us”, “This calls for DIVINE intervention!” and of course “I kick ass for the lord!”… we are an interesting group
@Josh – Good idea! I tweeted notch :D Hope he saw it!
@Moses – Haha! Interesting, indeed! :D
