I’ve been on an intriguing stint of watching serial killer/criminal documentaries on Youtube and Netflix. What fascinates me most are the police interviews of the killers and how they think they’re either justified or even innocent. The way they try to snake through questions and get away with what they’ve done is disturbing but it’s a really interesting window into their psyche. The stories on the “JCS – Criminal Psychology” Youtube channel are definitely my favourite as they focus on and analyze the interviews. The criminal lies and deception are just as compelling as the detectives’ strategies and mental tactics. Good cop, bad cop is actually a thing!

The Devil Next Door on Netflix is also a great watch. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a retired American senior who is accused of being Ivan the Terrible, an infamously monstrous Nazi death camp guard. He is extradited to Israel to stand trial where the prosecutors’ witnesses consist mainly of Holocaust survivors. Their stories are horrifically heart-breaking and you can’t help but view the accused as guilty, despite what his defense team says. The whole story is captivating from beginning to end – I really recommend it :D

Then there’s Mindhunter on Netflix. All these serial killer stories wrapped up in a well-acted, well-told show that is now my end-of-the-day go-to :D

All this got me thinking – would a serial killer still be a serial killer in a post-apocalyptic world? Would surviving and defending yourself against even greater killers (human or not) override their broken psychology? Killing zombies doesn’t make you a killer, right? Even if you enjoy it? This is the kind of stuff I think about when writing The Pocalypse haha

I think a serial killer would stay a serial killer in a post-apocalyptic world. Moreover, he would also have easier life with no police/government and random people looking for help or refuge.
So he would fight zombies and other entities, while also kill people to satisfy his urge (and mainting his beloved killing-rites, which are very important for a serial killer)
