Remember the game teaser image that I post a while back? Good! The game is still under construction and we don’t have a release date yet. We’re hoping to have it out relatively soon, though! Can’t wait to have a game out! :D
I’m bringing up the game because I’m wondering if anyone else has had any experience with releasing a flash game to the internet masses. I’ve been playing a lot of Newgrounds games recently, just to see what’s out there again, and I’ve found a seemingly infinite variety of games ranging from “What? This is game?” to “Wow! Amazing!”.
Any information and advice regarding releasing a free flash game would be greatly appreciated! As far as I know, it’s just as easy as submitting a game to a game site and waiting for players, but I just want to make sure! :D Thanks!
Please continue to vote!
Enjoy Scene 16 – “Runs in the Family”!
Zompires are becoming the only real enemy of this world.
LOVE it!!!!! Cant wait to see more ;)
*does victory dance* I knew it I knew it HAHAHA! no one thought I was right hehe! Anyway I love how Joe got totally owned by our favorite sniper hehe.
If you’re planning on releasing the game on anywhere but just this site, make sure you get it to all the big names. Newgrounds is one, but also Kongregate and Armor Games, to name a few. Make sure you give a short backstory (and a link to the comic!) so new people know what’s going on before they play. Give us (a) link(s) too, so we don’t have to hunt them down on our personal favorite sites. Other than that, it’s just hoping that enough people like it enough to rate it highly. Good luck! =D
There are SEVERAL spelling errors… Armory not Armoury. Incorregible not Incorrigible. Comming not Coming. Now that grammitical help is done, my opinion… WTF!?! that’s all I have to say about Bernie…
Keep it up, i`m still enjoying this more and more.
@Aldra – Thanks for the advice! :D
@NeoPhantom – Being Canadian (and as our British readers know), I spell words like “armour” and “neighbour” with an “ou” instead of just an “o” :D Also, “incorrigible” and “coming” are spelled correctly :) I know you’re trying to help, though, Neo! Thanks! :D
“incorrugable”, adj. means unable to be bent into wavy ridges, can refer to materials or somebody who’s acting stubborn
@Grant – Interesting! Where are you getting your info? I have http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/incorrigible. I can’t seem to find “incorrugable” D:
Also, Neo, I found that “incorregible” is Spanish! When translated to English, it means “incorrigible”! :D (That word looks weird to me now heh heh)
Excellent work! I love the character development of Bernie. I thought that he would become some type of Marty Sue, but I’m glad that my fear was unfounded. :D
I’ve had a little experience releasing games to the internet, and for me it was as easy as just clicking a submit button, for any one who’s interested check out :http://www.kongregate.com/games/LordLaneus/double-dodge to play my humble game, alright i’m done pimping my game now
are you going to release the game on Newgrounds? if so i would also suggest you to link to the comic, would be a good opportunity to spread the word
meh, releasing flash games is a bit different than regular games.
Also if i remember correctly newgrounds also pays with ad money those games that are successful
In fact, you might wanna check out my game – Tanks by YanPL – it’s not a flash game and it’s not zombie oriented, but you get to shoot aliens and spiders. Casual gaming does not get much cooler than that, don’t you think?
I good thing to do when releasing a game is to upload a gameplay video on youtube.
@Joe- Ok! I did not knew incorrugable, and I understand how I made the mistake of thinking incorrigible was wrong as MY native language is Spanish… sorry and you’re welcome
have you considered trying to build the game for a social media (i.e. Facebook) release? Pros and cons to both I’m sure, but one pro for a social media release is that it could potentially be a gateway to your comic for people who might not normally go around searching the internet for new and interesting comics/stories/animations/etc.
Weirdly, this episode keeps freezing for me where the armoury cabinets for the suits would open.
The “Pssssh” noise is played (when I’m trying with the “sounds on” version), but nothing more can be heard and nothing changes after that for minutes.
The flash player’s right click menu has the “play” option ticked, so it can’t have stopped the clip, and even the “forward” option does not work properly.
If it matters, I’m using Ubuntu 10.10 with the latest Firefox and the official Adobe Flash player, but all previous episodes were working just fine for me.
If I had to guess I’d say it’s a loading error, but I’ve refreshed the site a dozen times, always with the same error.
I even tried to view the ThePocalypse_002016.swf file alone (not being embedded in the html page), but without positive results.
Then I downloaded this swf, hoping that I could provide some debug infos, but I can only tell the size of this clip is 462284 bytes.
Thanks for any help.
Never mind my previous comment. Looks like it was the fourteenth refresh that solved this problem >.<
Still want to see more of Scrufflebeck…. Oh, and I’ve actully gotten round to writting abit more of Tevino Dalvak, one of the other colenys that are in The Pocalpse world~ ((although I do want Joe to read it before I contine with it x.x ))
note to self: never fuck with bernie
@LordLaneus – Thanks for sharing! Challenging game! I like it! Reminds me how bad I am at multi-tasking. :D
@Ashendant – Yes, I will definitely link to the comic!
@Yan – Thanks for sharing! Uploading a gameplay video is an awesome idea! :D
@Zack – Ah, yes, good ol’ Facebook :D I’ll look into it! Thanks!
@NeoPhantom – No prob! :D
@Z – Weird! I guess 14th time’s the charm :D Thanks for letting me know!
@Squizzel – Yeah, poor Scrufflebeck D: I’ll give it something special, soon! Cool, I’ll check it out!
since the game is likely going to be a defense game i will state a opinion, there is one thing i cant stand about most defense games: the fact that the bodies fade away after a small amount of time or vanish each round, people who play defense games like seeing the bodies pile up to give themselves a approximate number of how many enemies killed, and a kill counter can never give the satisfaction of walking over piles of bodies that stay there until you lose or win the game (presuming the game has a ending that you can progress to and complete)
also, i personally would prefer the game to not be made for a social networking site, but if you decide to, then make a non SNS version and a SNS version (SNS stands for social networking site)
there needs to be a edit button
About the game, the best way to get people onto here with Luke’s idea would be: Don’t give them the ending, and some upgrades. Tell them that’s a demo version, and the full version is Only avablibe here. That way, people will Flock to the Pocalypse to finish the game. (prehapse have a different setting for the demo version? like one of the other gates, and have someone tell them that another gate is under a harder attack, so the team must go help there?)
Oh, and check if the site can take awards. If so, find out what programming it needs and slip it in. A game that has badges is a Far more attractive game.
Grant is partially correct about the meaning of incorrugable. Corrugate does mean to bend into wavy ridges (think corrugated cardboard). Corrugable means able to be bent into wavy ridges. Incorrugable means incapable of being bent into wavy ridges. However, corrugate also means to wrinkle the skin. So an incorrugable person has smooth skin impervious to wrinkles. Since negative emotions and conflict can cause the skin to wrinkle, that likely means incorrugable people are mellow and compliant, not stubborn.
Incorrigible is also a word that is common enough to appear in dictionaries (unlike incorrugable) and it actually makes more sense as used in the comic.
ho snap! don’t get Bernie mad or he’ll pop a cap in your ass!
incorrugable isn’t a “real word”, just some dry humor there guys :)
@lukesf, Squizzel – Thanks! I’ll keep all that in mind :D
@angrybirds, Grant – Ah, sweet, sweet English…
@Aldra KBH Games, Gameforge, and CrazyGames are big ones too
