Ah great… more empathic dilemmas.
Still, Rusty seems to be a pretty good shot with the crossbow, and Annika is expendable/fast. But saying someone is “expendable” sounds wrong…
He’s probably right, though. Looks like being a total asshole works pretty well for survival.

I say we kill rusty and use his body as bait! Thats a great idea, and Rusty I know its best to survive, but really you would kill a boy’s mother! That’s just too low even for a human to do such a thing.

by the looks of things, this might be a rather short intermission. people are dropping left and right like flies.

rusty is not very smart he can just shot them throw the fence!
Why Annika? because she seems more FIT to running than being child care. If she wouldn’t get hit by that crossbow, I bet she’d outrun zombies.
At this point tho, loading a crossbow takes a while, so Annika and Jan could thwart Rusty if he started loading another bolt.
I seen how compassion and empathy sometimes do work in life. With mindset not containing a bit of them, one can use them as weapon against compassionate. Even in Pocalypse, there was an example of trap/ambush disguised by “cries for help”. Overall effect? Terry in hospital.

check your pockets for crossbow bolts. let us know if you have, say, 10 spare bolts around for some reason. Or 20, because once you start shooting zombies, they’ll come in bigger numbers. Or even more, because you never know what happens once you defeat al zombies in sight. Also, while Rusty would punctuate brains of zombies, those mutants which were left in building might find they way out just nearby the group of survivors.
Complete assholes in apocalypses usually are the ones who survive, the ones who don’t survive are the ones who try to save everyone and kill the entire group or think everything will be completely fine and get themselves eaten.

I would probably do what Rusty is doing…Maybe go about it better.
Also, wasn’t everyone suppose to arm themselves?! So why is Rusy the only one with a weapon?!
I think Rosa is a good zompire, and will help them escape and take them to the base :D
Reusty will probably die as some kindness is needed for people to except you. If he just treats every one as expendable then one day they will “Expend” him and survive themselves.
Whenever a character says “What do we do now?” he will die next… Mutants are coming, and the smart one might want revenge for the explosion!

Rusty is right, but he’s saying it in a harsh way and threatening isn’t the best idea…
What else are they gonna do? Risk Nathan getting bitten or killed? He’s the youngest one there and Rusty was trying to help save him…
On the bottom left corner, next to the character speaking, I notice a sort of ‘lighter’ coloured zombie with green trousers not blue :O Is he special? :P

I’d assume one would be able to pull bolts out of dead zombies and reuse them. And it’s not like he can miss, just hold it up to the fence and pull the trigger. Also, a crossbow shot and a zed hitting the floor are silent compared to a gunshot, which would draw more. I count 24 zombies visible in this scene, He wouldn’t have to kill all of them, just enough to clear a path. Then it’s just a matter of walking faster than they can shamble and finding a hole up. Lots of luck involved, but it beats the hell out of arbitrarily sacrificing one of your already depleted group.

I don’t know. I don’t think Rusty is that bad. He’s trying to save the kid, at least, and I don’t think he really would have shot Jan.
Plus, he wasn’t treating Annika as completely expendable. He planned to keep the zombies off her. It’s just if that didn’t work, it’s better than all of them dying, isn’t it? He knows how to survive; he’s just not that good at convincing the rest of them.
I said. Did I not say? This comic is getting better and better Joe. I keep finding myself unable to wait for the next update.
Also, another thing to think about… All you Rusty praisers out there. Sure you can say Rusty is doing the best thing for survival. And yeah. I agree. He is. I have NEVER said that he wasn’t doing the best thing for survival. However, who is to say that he isn’t as much a monster as the mutants? In all reality, would he really be what’s left of humanity if he loses his own humanity? Face it. He killed people. Jan is right. He isn’t a survivor anymore. Now he’s just another monster. Looking for people to feed off of for his own sake. He might be surviving, but he’s as much a hazard as having a zombie in their ranks. (Yes. That comparison just happened. Deal with it. If you like characters that kill people to live, you may as well cheer for the vampires, zombies, and mutants too. But you don’t. Why? Because they’re inhuman. Why? Because they kill people. Why do they kill people? Well it hasn’t been said, but I would assume they do it because they need to. So does Rusty. Need doesn’t equal justification. I guess thats the crux of the argument. Doesn’t mean I don’t like Rusty as a character. I just don’t like him as a person.)
I totally see him as the kind of guy who would have made her run as bait and then put away his crossbow and locked the gate behind her.
“Are you a fucking idiot? I’m not going to waste any crossbow bolts saving one worthless survivor. How the hell has she helped us survive? Not at all, that’s how. Now let’s go while they’re distracted.”
Rusty is too hell bent on his own survival to care about others, so that makes him a jerk who’s going to end up alone and dead. But he said one of the best lines I’ve heard yet, “I’ll see you there, Jan. Save me a seat.” All I thought was badass when I read that line, but still an asshole

Rusty has a point, his plan wasn’t a very bad one, the zombies can’t move very fast and he is a good shot
@Spirit. I agree. As a character, I LOVE Rusty! He’s the kind of character that makes a story fun to read. I mean, if there wasn’t any conflict in a story then it wouldn’t be a story. So as far as I’m concerned, the more conflict the better. But if I met him on the street, would I be able to resist the urge to spit on him and tell him he is a complete asshole? Probably not. I surely wouldn’t tell him how good a job he did surviving the pocalypse. Not at this point anyway.

Rusty may be a survivor type but he’s also a total idiot. Which means he’s going to die. Instead of macho-ing commanding everyone he could also try to take up the good leader type and make it look like he wants to rescue everyone (while secretly he’s not). In other words, he’s not sneaky enough.
Also what would he do with his crossbow anyway? He shot a monster a lot of times and it wouldn’t die. How can he cover Annika? If I were Annika I’d like: Lol no way.
Rusty isn’t a survivor. He’s a whimpering coward that thinks the more extreme measures he takes to try to survive the better. Next he’ll be cutting off a foot and throwing it at the zombies so he can run away. (Hop away)
Actually… if someone cut off their foot to lure away zombies… that would make them a survivor… that would take guts. Rusty, meanwhile, makes no sacrifices himself and picks off others so he can live.

Rusty is doing what’s best for his own survival, not the whole group. He’ll just keep dropping people when it’s convenient for his own safety and longevity. Would it work? Sure, until he runs out of people to throw away. Is it inhumane? To the furthest degree. If you deny that, you might want to take a long, hard look at your own moral compass, because I think you’ve misplaced it.
