Day of the Dead, Starring Bub | November 9, 2010

by Joe

You gotta love Bub from Day of the Dead (1985)! I got a lot of inspiration from this zombie character who I thought was more “human” than the jackass military personnel who “protected” an underground research facility during the zombie apocalypse.

Bub was a captured specimen who underwent several behavioural tests to determine whether or not zombies could be re-socialized or tamed. Bub eventually learns (or re-learns) how to turn on a cassette player, fire a gun, and he even salutes a fellow soldier (I thought that was really cool)! The concept of Bub and his master/pet relationship with his researcher, Dr. Logan, is the main thing I took away from this movie. It’s going to be a lot of fun developing characters that share a similar relationship (how’s that for foreshadowing :) ).

I absolutely hated the soldiers who were assigned to protect the researchers. I hated them as much as I hated the perverted soldiers in 28 Days Later. But, I think that characters that the audience loves to hate are needed in zombie flicks because it’s so satisfying to see them getting brutally torn up by a swarm of hungry zombies :D

SPOILER! I hate to spoil, but I LOVED the part when Bub salutes the son-of-a-bitch captain as he is being ripped apart, yelling “CHOKE ON ‘EM”! :D

I also watched The Social Network after getting a lot of recommendations about it. I liked it! No zombies/vampires/monsters, but it was good :) I thought it was going to be a rag-to-riches, follow-your-dreams kind of movie, but it wasn’t. I thought of it as more of a money-can’t-buy-love kind of movie. I don’t know if that was the intended message, but that’s what I got from it :)

Thanks to Strawberry Death Cake for mentioning us! Check it out!

All he needs to do is learn to spin for longer.

That was extremely comical.

Yes, he literally spun, and the zombies were too smart to walk into him when he did.
Those zombies does have some brain left…
– Tactic learned: If the zombies doesn’t come to you when you’re attacking, go to them.
The comic was great, as usual. :)

Joe (character) is so retarded, it gets more annoying than funny, IMO.
