I Am Groot! | May 5, 2017

by Joe

Anyone checking out Guardians of the Galaxy 2? I enjoyed the first one but I still can’t shake the feeling that it doesn’t quite fit in the Marvel movie universe. I know they’re all going to meet in the star-studded, insane-budget future Avengers movie but as someone who doesn’t read the comics, the GotG seem like they belong in their own universe. Maybe because it’s set in space and their technology is so far ahead Earth’s that it’s hard for me to believe that, even with Iron Man’s tech, aliens and Earthlings are on the same playing field. Granted, the Earthlings have Thor, Hulk, Vision, Scarlet Witch… okay, never mind. I’ll definitely check the movie out :D

I’ve always been resistant to introducing aliens to The Pocalypse (the only apocalyptic scenario missing, right?) because I feel like it’s a stretch, even compared to zombies, mutants, vampires, machines, and plants. I’m still resistant to the idea but, who knows what the future will bring. If I ever do introduce aliens, someone please point me back to this post haha :D

What do you think? Would aliens fit into the story?

Even fallout has aliens.

Also, please look at this.

The existence of yourself proves it’s not impossible (chance greater than zero) there’s biological or mechanical life at least resembling inteligent sapience.
Every one of those dots is a whole galaxy of uncounted stars with unknown amounts of planets tracking around them. *It is next to impossible there are no other individuals or hive minds gazing at the swathes of dark in the sky, wondering if there are others.*

Also, we have this.

I’ve been trying to find my personal favorite picture setting earth in relation to the super clusters and strings of clusters, but it eludes me.

The Pocalypse would be too loaded if you added an alien faction.
A single or a very small group would be perfect if you’d really like to add them to the webcomic. It could even be just an easter egg.
As long as you do it your way, including or excluding aliens in the Pocalypse would be just fine.

Also, F*ck Cyborg Victor/Smyth, with the way he’s acting, I’m pretty sure you’re setting this shell up for some massive beating. I hope Victor gets substantial punishment too! Poor Red, poor Rusty(Never thought I’d say that!)

Aliens could work, but maybe not in excess. Maybe just sorta hint at their existence, a bit? (I’d imagine, with the state earth is in, they wouldn’t be too keen on poking and prodding it too much…)

yeah, we don’t need aliens by this point. Got enough going on right now. Especially with this massive chapter alone. Conflabbed space demons. Anywho, this is going to either result in some serious stuff for Bernie to lose a suit again.

@Robert – He is not questioning the existence of aliens dude, he was just wondering about adding them :D

@Jo – I’m with the others, as in: being probably too late to add them in. However it would be funny as like an “after-credits gag” whenever Pocalypse ends, that we see our heroes “watching the sunset” and then suddenly UFOs land and “Oh shit, here we go again” :D
Well it wouldn’t be a surprise now that I write it out, but still. I would laugh still.

Ah well. In the end it depends on how you design them. Most believable, not already copyrighted aliens do look like randomly mutated vermin.

Yeah. Aliens… Would be cool, but they aren’t in this ecosystem. There’s already strange alliances happening with the current groups, but you don’t need some other, more mysterious threat that people need to band together against. Besides, what powers would they have? The vampires and mind-power individuals have alien-like abilities, the machines have advanced alien-like technology, the mutants have strong alien-like bodies. What more can you add? What would be special about them?

The only way to do it is if all those three characteristics were even more extreme than those three groups, and so everybody really needed to set aside all differences and band together. But nah. Cliché, not fun. This is good.

There’s a single way I think you could do it. Left over alien DNA samples or technology from the past. The humans find is, and it gives them a way to finally be a step ahead of the other groups. Use the alien DNA to alter themselves and give themselves minor powers, or use the technology to counteract the machine technology. A turning point in the story, where humans might have a fighting chance, as long as they manage to keep it from slipping out. What do you and the readers think?

… Wonder why people would store important equipment, that’d be needed in a couple of days somewhere so accessible; it’s like they’re begging people to sabotage them, especially when they just had a rebellion/mutiny.
