We’re moving on to our next game! The Pocalypse Defense will be playable soon! Thanks for your patience! :D
I was planning on putting up the next scene, but I got caught up making Joe’s sprites, which you get to control in today’s filler :D I don’t want to give anything away yet, but it will be a platformer!
The art you see isn’t final. I just wanted to see what side-scrolling Joe would look like in action. I had to look up the code, which I half-understood and half-copied-and-pasted. Three cheers for Grade 10 comp sci!
Enjoy today’s teaser “game”! ;) Oh, you might have to click the Flash screen to focus on it and start controlling Joe.
Please continue to vote! :D The Mystery Mutant’s sketch is still the incentive! Thank you for voting everyday!
You can follow The Pocalypse on Facebook, Twitter and RSS, too!
i love this game, i cant die.
100000000 points for me.
Indeed, Joe the game is excellent
*chuckles knowingly*
lol for joe being super powered and all…he cant jump that high….even mario could jump higher and hes a fat plumber 0.o
Cool game.
It makes me want to make my own ^^
This shows promise, I believe.
If the testing of the game itself was melded with the plot, then that would only make it that much more sweet. A note, however. Jumping removes the player’s control over Joe, and thus, is an action that requires immense commitment. If the game is to be a strict platformer, then it seems like it could be a very difficult one due to inability to control Joe in mid-air. But if it is to be a more action oriented game with emphasis on battles mixed with platforming, then the payoff for jumping should be quite good. Maybe something involving a “ground pound”?
Either way, I look forward to more, as usual. Good show. I hope that the game turns out well.
There is a bug / awesome secret feature on the left wall : you can jump through it and completely disappear from this gray world. Nothing to after that though.
I don’t know what version of actionscript you’re using, but I can happily send you an old project I made in AS2, had very simple AI and recognised slopes and such (if the height of the object was 1/2 the player height or such, you could walk up it, like steps or slopes, if it was the same height as the player, you had to jump) it was very, very sloppily coded though and largely undocumented I think.. Still, you’re welcome to use it if it helps..
@scavenger – Haha, Mario shows the world the Fat Plumbers Can Jump :D
@Taioko – I agree! I don’t have the programming chops to do controlled jumping, so it’s a good thing that I’m not doing any programming for the actual game :D
@Aelith – Haha, you’re right! That’s why I added the Replay button!
@NJB – I used AS2 for this filler scene, but I’m pretty sure that the actual game will be made with AS3 (as was The Pocalypse Defense). Thank you for the offer! :D
Awesome. I kinda like how, if you jump in one direction, and just keep holding up, he keeps ‘bouncing’ in the same direction. And, I kinda liked that you had no midair control over Joe. After all, you can’t *really* change direction in mid-air, can you? The non-controlled jumping kinda makes it feel like Journey to Silius. Which is kinda nifty, considering that the first stage of that game had a semi-apocalyptic feel. Heh, maybe you could do a Bernie-centric Pocalypse game, and just copy/paste the stuff from that XD.
this is awsome if you somehow can put this in normal updates and make them interactive than this would be the coolest thing ever and i will built you a statue
hey joe if you ever are in need of another flash programer let me know. i took a course on it in college
HAHAHA! this was fun! ^^ but we want it to devolpe! enemies! weapons! splash! splish!^^
and i am sopposed to be a girl… -.-“
Weee, look at him go!
I love Platformers. Can’t wait for it…
jump jump jump jump!
Hey! I think the update is kinda neat, but I found a way to die! If you jump over Andy, then tap right a few times, you fall through the walls! (I think it is a neat glitch but you might want to check over and search for pathing issues like that in the actual game >.>)
*is told to go right* Haha… you cant tell me what to do stupid game! *taps left a bunch of times, falling off the screen* D:
Fell off the right side of the screen. It works either way XD still cool though
Heh, I jumped to the left wall and went inside it. Then I walked to the left more and fell of the screen. Try it.
You guys are the best QA testers! :D
I died! :O
Could you think of making a mobile version of the pocalypse you know, for us whom currently don’t have clear Internet connection?
This may be or may not be the plan already, but I think it’d be a helluva lot cooler if the game was melded to be a part of the plot. I know that the tower defense will be its own separate thing, but a flash game linking into the story itself sometime later would be awesome.
@Anonymous_jr – I haven’t seen The Pocalypse site on a mobile device before! Is the Flash too big? I know it won’t play on an iDevice since Apple hates Flash. I don’t have any plans on making a mobile-version right now, but who knows what opportunities wil come up! The mobile audience is HUGE and I’d like to reach them one day :D
@Rad Cat – I’d like to incorporate more game elements to the comic itself! I have some plans for the future regarding that :D But, yes, a game that is directly related to the plot is something that could be done one day :D
