It’s possible that the kid – and others like him – are actually doing this for the greater good… he’s talking familiarly with Joe too. I’d wager that Bernard Sr. has been continuing his experiments, and he’s gone much further than Joe or Victor. For the good of humanity, but likely with unfortunate downsides that will cause the humans to not think kindly about it.
An interesting thought… So Bernie is now a robot, but his original body still exists. So is it in a coma? Could two Bernies exist at the same time? If Victor wants his consciousness back in his original body for whatever reason, wouldn’t it be just simpler for him to turn off Robo-Bernie and reviving original Bernie from his coma?
It’s quite an interesting philosophical question.
I’m sure Author Joe just uses “full consciousness transfer” aka. souls to make the story more simple, but still interesting to think about. :P
(I mean I kind of hope he does, an in-world discussion about the body-mind problem might be a bit too much on top of everything that is already happening.)
When will we see a follow up of Andrius, Cross, and the faithful family, as well as Greybane, Nick, and Karen? I do love the story still but I miss the times when it had interconnecting storylines running in paralell to meet eachother at the end.
@Derek – I miss those storylines too! Once this chapter wraps up, we should be getting back to what’s going on outside of New Hammerston :D
